Forget everything you thought you knew about classic mac and cheese. This isn't just a bowl of gooey goodness; it's an experience! We're taking the beloved comfort food to new heights with an incredibly rich, velvety cheese sauce and topping it all off with a golden, buttery, and unbelievably crunchy breadcrumb crust. Every spoonful offers the perfect contrast of textures and flavors.

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook according to package directions until al dente. Drain well and set aside.

In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, melt 1/2 cup butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until a smooth paste (roux) forms.

Gradually whisk in the warm milk, a little at a time, ensuring no lumps form. Continue to whisk until the sauce thickens and comes to a gentle simmer, about 5-7 minutes.

Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to set slightly.
